The Short Game

Do I need to know what I want retirement to look like before planning?

The short answer

No. And believing you do is the most common reason people stall. The financial plan comes first precisely because it creates the foundation (confidence, protection, income) that gives you room to discover what you want. As the discoveries arrive, the plan adjusts to serve them. It's a loop, not a sequence.

The myth that stalls people

Somewhere along the way, retirement advice picked up a prerequisite: know your why, then plan. It sounds wise and works backwards. Most people cannot design a life from a blank page while still working fifty hours a week, and so they postpone the planning too, which protects nothing and clarifies nothing.

How it actually works

Your retirement plan already exists inside you. We don't build it for you; we uncover it with you, chipping away at everything that isn't the retirement you were meant to live. The financial structure comes first because security is what makes exploration affordable: it's much easier to try things, travel, volunteer, and experiment when the income question is settled.

Then, as you discover more about what you want, the plan flexes to fund it. A great plan breathes. That's what we mean when we call it a living plan.
