Rc’s story

For nearly thirty years, I’ve had the privilege of helping people prepare for retirement.

I’ve sat across the table from hundreds of families, helping them save, invest, and build financial plans designed to give them confidence about the future.

Like most financial advisors, I believed that if we could help people reach financial independence, we’d done our job.

And in many ways, we had. People retired with confidence. Their investments were in place. Their income plan was solid. By every financial measure, they were successful.

But over time, I started noticing something I couldn’t ignore.

Not everyone who was financially prepared was happy. Some people thrived. Others struggled. And the difference wasn’t their account balance.

The more I listened, the more I realized the questions people were asking had changed. They weren’t asking about investment returns anymore. They were asking questions no financial plan could answer.

“What am I going to do every day?” “Who am I if I’m no longer the CEO… the teacher… the business owner?” “How do I make new friends?” “What gives my life purpose now?”

Those weren’t financial questions. They were life questions.

That realization stayed with me.

At the same time, Deana and I were entering our own fifties. We were becoming grandparents and beginning to think about our own future. For the first time, retirement wasn’t just something I helped clients prepare for. It was becoming personal.

The more we talked, the more convinced we became that something was missing from the retirement conversation.

We spend decades preparing financially for retirement. But almost no one prepares for actually living it.

That realization became the foundation for The Retirement Life.

Today, I still believe financial planning is incredibly important. In fact, it’s one of the greatest gifts you can give your future self. But I also believe financial independence isn’t the finish line. It’s the beginning of a new chapter.

My passion is helping people connect their money to something bigger. Because money was never meant to be the destination. It was always meant to be the tool that helps you build a retirement filled with purpose, meaningful relationships, health, adventure, and joy.

After all, the goal isn’t simply to have enough money to retire. The goal is to build a life that’s worth retiring into.
